The Taft Correctional Institution opened in xxxx, as the Federal Bureau of Prisons first privately-operated facility. In xxxx, MTC took over operations of the facility by winning a competitive bid against other private companies. The facility consists of two different types of correctional housing. The main side has three low security housing units with a xxxx beds, and also has a Security Housing Unit. This portion of the facility serves the purpose of housing a criminal, alien population. The camp is a 584 bed minimum security prison. The camp houses convicted criminals that are citizens of the United States. Both facilities provide recreation, training, and education to ensure that these individuals are productive and healthy when released back into society. Essential FunctionsPrepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and number of inmate. Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly working condition. Ensure work area is clean, sanitary, and safe at all times. Prepare foods as directed for special facility functions and visitors. Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal. Supervise inmates assigned to assist in cafeteria. Search for contraband and provide security. Provide custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates. Perform specific security instructions including pat and strip searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions. Read, review, and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the inmates health and safety and to the security of the facility. Provide appropriate information to other personnel. Properly prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports as appropriate. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques. Maintain accountability of staff, offenders, and property; adhere to safety practices. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capability as determined by management. Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Food service training, one (1) year of food service or related experience required. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. United States citizenship required. Valid driver license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
